Treatment
Modern treatments for OCD have radically changed how the disorder is perceived. While in the past OCD was deemed as chronic and untreatable, a diagnosis of OCD is now regarded with hope.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and antidepressant medications are considered the current treatments of choice.
Treatment for OCD in most cases involves a combination of CBT and drug therapy and should be sought from a qualified therapist. Most forms of traditional psychotherapy are not effective at relieving symptoms of OCD, however many people benefit from the addition of supportive counseling (individual, group, spousal or family) which helps to fortify their coping abilities when dealing with day to day life stressors.
